A Note From The Director: Greetings From Robin!
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. |
SPRING HAS SPRUNG…at Upward Bound Camp and as usual, so much is happening! I am loving all the activity here at camp right now. You will be amazed at the transformation our campus is undergoing!
For example: 1) AmeriCorps was here! We have been blessed to have 6 AmeriCorps volunteers here at camp for the last few weeks. They did all kinds of fun and some not so fun work while they were here. Here are just a few of the things they did during their time at UBC. a. Building two storage barns. (FUN!) b. Digging a water line trench into the keyhole garden area. (NOT FUN but it will be great to have water nearby for the animals and the garden.) c. Building a bunny run. (VERY FUN for the BUNNIES!) d. Clearing brush. (NOT SO FUN but the property will look wonderful when it’s all done.) e. Rehabilitating Mary D’s Path. (Mary D is a FUN person so working on her path is FUN for all of us who know her.) f. Painting the Laundry Room and the Bathrooms in the Old Schoolhouse. (FUN for anyone who loves painting. Also FUN for our camp dog, Jango, who manages to get paint somewhere on his beautiful black coat any time there is painting to do.) 2) Have you heard? Archery is on the activity list this year! Thanks to Spuds who is our certified Archery Trainer, Leah’s family for getting us Archery Equipment, Ranger who has planned the placement and set up of the Archery Range and the AmeriCorps Team who gets to work with Ranger getting it all done for YOU GUYS! 3) We have some new faces at Upward Bound Camp! a. Care Bear (Carole Robare) has been doing our Graphic Design for a couple of years now has joined our year-round team as our Administrative Manager. Care Bear is responsible for managing our registration process, keeping our administrative supplies in stock, our files up to date as well as supporting Robin with scheduling, phone calls and creating the most beautiful post cards, invitations and newsletters we have ever had! b. Star (Stella Cruson) is our Bookkeeper. She, umm, keeps the books. Oh, and manages our income, our bills and our accounting record keeping. c. Ranger (Sheldon Paulson) is Grizzly’s dad and our Project Manager, which is a fancy title for, the guy who keeps the rebuilding of camp and the restoration of the Old School Building on track. 4) We have THREE, International and one new staff person coming to work with you all this summer. See our newsletter page to find out who is on our summer staff this year and where they are coming from. We are looking forward to seeing YOU this summer at camp. Have you registered?
