Upward Bound Camp program staff perform a variety of duties in service to our campers. From program and activity planning and implementation to crazy skits to sharing your love of God, nature and friends, there is so much fun to be had by all of our participants, campers and staff alike.

Providing recreational and educational camp experiences for people with special needs, ages 12 to senior adults, since 1978.

Since 1978 UBC has worked to establish a diverse community of campers, staff and volunteers, intentionally building a strong and inclusive community, promoting respect and understanding of all who participate. UBC staff and board members actively cultivate relationships with business and community members in the Santiam Canyon and beyond in a sincere and conscious effort to expand the understanding of community, acceptance and inclusion, enriching the lives of all participants.

Summer Positions
What’s in it for you? As a summer camp counselor or activity coordinator you will have the opportunity to meet new people, gain important leadership skills and receive valuable training to take with you as you begin your professional life. All staff are responsible to provide a personal, fun and safe camp experience to each camper. We believe all people, regardless of their ability level, can benefit greatly by experiencing the outdoors in a barrier-free environment. We offer most of the activities traditional to any summer camp in a way that makes them accessible to all campers. Camp activities include: Fishing, Arts & Crafts, Archery, Camp Fire, Nature Walks, Basketball, Track & Field Games, Music, Drama and more!
Commitment: Due to the nature of summer camp it is important that summer staff commit to the full summer. Exceptions are sometimes granted but summer salaries are based on one full week of training, one midsummer training (1-2 days) and the full 10 weeks of summer camp. Camp sessions are 4-5 days in length and although each staff member receives 2-4 hours of personal time each day, program staff are generally required to be present, on campus, for the full week.

Waterfront Activity Coordinator
Full Summer Stipend for Waterfront Activity Coordinator (11 weeks)=$5,250
Archery and Outdoor Activity Coordinator
Full Summer Stipend for Archery and Outdoor Activity Coordinator (11 weeks)=$5,500
Respite Weekend Stipend/Summer Season—$75/day
Some campers come a day or two early for a camp session or stay a day or two after a camp session. Summer staff can earn an extra $75 per day (including the overnight) to support respite campers over a weekend.

- Doing your part to keep the campsite, buildings and bunkhouses clean and safe for all participants
- Sleeping in a bunkhouse with campers at least 2-3 times per week
- Providing personal care for campers who need help with eating, dressing, showering and toileting
- Full summer employment commitment required (1 week of training and 10 weeks of programming.)

Volunteer Program Staff
- Volunteers commit to participating in camp for at least one full week, usually Monday through Friday
- All of the above duties with the exception of personal care
Waterfront Activity Coordinator
- Must possess or be willing to train for Lifeguard Certification (UBC will consider paying for lifeguard certification with a full summer employment commitment, 1 week of training and 10 weeks of programming.)
- The Waterfront Activity Coordinator plans and supervises all activities happening at the waterfront area. Waterfront Activities include fishing, wading and picnicking.
- The Waterfront Activity Coordinator will also work directly with campers on days/times when there are no waterfront activities (see program staff duties).
Full Summer Stipend for Waterfront Activity Coordinator (11 weeks)=$5,250
Archery and Outdoor Activity Coordinator
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a Level 2 Archery Certification (UBC will consider paying for Archery certification with a full summer employment commitment, 1 week of training and 10 weeks of programming.)
- The Archery and Outdoor Activity Coordinator plans and supervises all aspects of weekly archery sessions and daily outdoor activities.
- The Archery and Outdoor Activity Coordinator will also work directly with campers on days/times when there are no archery or outdoor activities (see program staff duties).
Full Summer Stipend for Archery and Outdoor Activity Coordinator (11 weeks)=$5,500
Respite Weekend Stipend/Summer Season—$75/day

We offer most of the activities traditional to any camp in a way that makes them accessible to all campers. Year around staff consistently working 32-40 hours per week receive health insurance and time off benefits.
Commitment: Year around camp staff support campers throughout the year, including some holidays, in group and individual respite or camp sessions. Duties include activity planning and implementation, personal care of campers who need help with activities of daily living and sleeping in gender specific bunkhouses with campers during overnight sessions. Camp sessions are 4-5 days in length and although each staff member receives 2-4 hours of personal time each day, support staff are generally required to be present, on campus, for the full week. During off session weeks there may be hourly, respite or day program work available to year around program staff. Summer is our busiest season, when we serve the greatest numbers of campers and commitment to the full summer is required for all year around staff. Exceptions to this rule are considered on a case by case basis and arrangements for time off during summer camp season must be made at least one month prior to the start of summer camp sessions.

- Facilitating positive, team focused interactions with fellow program, administrative and leadership staff
- Planning and leading program activities such as outdoor games, crafts, skits, worship time, hiking and fishing
- Planning and leading daily devotional activities
- Supporting year around and summer staff in establishing a fun and safe environment for all participants
- Working as a team with all staff and volunteers to provide the best experience possible for all participants, campers, program and administrative staff
- Ensuring that the campsite, buildings and bunkhouses clean and safe for all participants
- Support campers in activities and with personal care as needed
- Overnight/Bunkhouse Support as needed
