General Summer Camp Eligibility Requirements

  • Desire to interact socially, have fun and meet new friends
  • Sleep through night in a room with other people, comfortable away from home
  • Interacts with others without behaviors or acts potentially dangerous to self or others
  • Medically stable with no conditions requiring 24 hour nursing care, including but not limited to tube feeding, fragile bone disorders, critical chronic asthma, oxygen use, medications that must be administered after 10 PM or before 6 AM.
  • Successful history with other camps, and Upward Bound 

Holiday Camp
​Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be own guardian with NO family to spend the holidays with
  • Must have good balance and be independently mobile
  • Must be able to eat and handle dental hygiene independently
  • Must be able to dress and tend to personal hygiene independently
  • Must be able to toilet self and cannot demonstrate ANY incontinence.

Leadership Camp

  • Some reading and writing ability
  • Independent in mobility, personal hygiene, and eating
  • Ability to follow three part instructions
  • Social awareness and desire to serve others 

Day Camp
Eligibility Requirements

  • Desire to have fun and try new things
  • Availability of caregiver if have medical, or behavioral needs requiring specialized attendant

F.A.Q.S. (frequently asked questions)

Where are you located?
  • We are located 35 miles East of Salem, just off the main highway.

May I come if I have lots of medications?
  • Yes! We ask that each camper has a doctor’s approval to attend camp and bring all medications in bubble packs with the appropriate paper work (MARS or TARS).

Who handles the medications during my camp stay?
  • Medications are distributed by qualified personnel according to physician’s orders.

Will there be people my age at camp?
  • We try to schedule each session with a diverse group of campers including people of different ages. There usually people of all ages, including your age, to interact and experience camp with.

May I come for more than one session?
  • Yes, it is not unusual for campers to register for more than one session.

What time is arrival and departure?
  • All camps are AFTER 2 PM and departures are BEFORE 10 AM. 
  • Early arrival in the event of necessity must be coordinated with the Executive Director on a case by case basis.
  • Late departures are subject to late fee(s).

What should I bring?
  • The confirmation that you receive after registering will have a complete list of things to bring.
  • You will want to plan for mountain weather, outdoor activities, and lots of fun.

May I call home if I get homesick?
  • Most campers don’t have time to get homesick, but if this does happen we have a telephone available for emergencies. 
​
How are staff selected?
  • Before someone may be part of the Upward Bound Camp team they must first fill out an application with verifiable references, pass an interview and a criminal history background check.
  • They are also asked to sign UBC’s “Statement of Faith Agreement” and complete UBC’s ten day training program before ever working with campers.

What forms do I need to fill out?
  • If you are interested in sharing the camp experience fill out the (New or Returning Camper) Application , HIPPA, Personal Standing Order, and Health Disclosure and send them in with the appropriate photos and a current photo. (If necessary, the health exam may be sent separately.)

Is there scholarship assistance available?
  • Yes. Limited scholarship assistance is available. There are no FULL scholarships and eligibility is based on need and applicant not having been a recipient of a scholarship in the last 3 years.

  • If you would like to be on our mailing list (even though you may not be coming to camp), let us know.
